5 things that define Yoomee

I've always found it difficult to define what we do. Existing clients seem to 'get us' but I'm not sure potential prospects easily understand how we differ from other digital agencies in our approach to work.

In 2010, we were delighted to be selected by vInspired, The National Young Volunteers Service, to work with them for the next four years. But from our perspective the most remarkable part of vInspired's procurement process was that their tender document described Yoomee exactly, almost word-for-word – without ever having met us!

We were scored on the following five areas:

1. Agile

We've been delivering projects using the Agile philosophy and working hard to build a company culture to support the values and principles of the Agile Manifesto since 2007. All the technology decisions we make (such as using Ruby on Rails) are to support Agile working practices. So tick.

2. Multi-disciplinary team

We're a very close knit team based on the shared values of trust, respect, communication, simplicity and feedback. We work and play hard together to keep at the top of our game. We have extremely complementary skills, which result in a rounded multi-disciplinary team, covering all skills from service design, software development to graphic design. Tick.

3. Social change

Yoomee's work is principally focused on organisations with a social change agenda; in short organisations which want to make the world a better place. We specialise in working with voluntary and community sector organisations - large and small - social innovators and social entrepreneurs. Tick.

4. Successful online communities

At Yoomee we specialise in creating and designing participatory, social tools and successful online communities. Our passion is to see the power of the Internet - as a network of people - used for good. We know what works, and what doesn't. Tick.

5. Web-related service design

When designing a new social web application, reviewing our clients' business processes and how they interact with the new online system is integral to our work. The tools and practices we use during service design are: user journeys, mental models, mind mapping, scenarios, wireframes, prototyping, feedback and research. Tick.

So thank you vInspired, not only for selecting us, but helping us to define what we're good at, and what Yoomee is all about.
